The Board of Supervisors of Japan museum SieboldHuis is pleased to announce the appointment of Kris Schiermeier as its new museum director effective September 1st 2010. Mrs. Schiermeier is a Japanologist and art historian and brings to the SieboldHuis her vast experience as a curator in such prestigious museums as the Van Gogh, the Rijksmuseum and the Kunsthal Rotterdam. Her extensive publications are in the field of Japanese arts.
Mrs. Schiermeier hopes to increase public interest in the museum and further develop the SieboldHuis museum as the leading centre for academic, cultural, economic and trade relations between the Netherlands and Japan.
Japan Museum Sieboldhuis in the heart of Leiden houses a unique collection of prints, lacquer ware, ceramics, fossils, coins, textiles, maps and other treasures from Japan all of which belong to this famous collection acquired by German physician Philipp Franz von Siebold between 1823 and 1829. In addition to the permanent collection, temporary exhibitions are held on a regular basis.
