You will find it all on the Japanmarket 2011! On May 29, the SieboldHuis will organize its annual Japan Market at the Rapenburg. On this day we commemorate and celebrate the visit of the Japanese emperor on May 25, 2000 on the Rapenburg. Leiden’s most beautiful canal street will be transformed into a Japanese market with stands that offer an overview of all aspects of Japanese culture: from sushi and kimono’s to Japanese ceramics and bonsai.
The SieboldHuis pays special attention to modern Japanese youth culture this year, also at the Japan Market. Besides stands showing traditional aspects of Japanese culture, other stands will be present that offer a look into modern Japanese culture: anime conventions, fashionable clothing and even manga books (Japanese comics).
Additionally, the SieboldHuis will organize an auction for the victims of the disaster in Japan. You can check out the items below and bid on them. The returns of this auction will go to the city of Sendai, located within the region struck most by the tsunami and its aftermath. The money will be used to rebuild cultural heritage within the area.
